Twelve years ago, Christie’s embarked on a journey of offering Middle Eastern, Iranian and Turkish Modern and Contemporary Art for the first time in the history of international auction houses, signalling a watershed moment in the art market.
After more than ten years of developing the regional art market and successes at auction in Dubai, in October 2017, we successfully took the step to internationalize the market by taking our fall auction to London. Our October sale during Middle Eastern Art Week in London is now a fixture in our sales calendar, complimented by the traditional spring sale during Dubai Art Week in March.
Our auctions have attracted some of the most important collectors and institutions in the region and beyond, setting multiple record-breaking results for modern and contemporary Egyptian, Iraqi, Syrian, Lebanese, North African, GCC, Iranian, and Turkish art. Today we continue to achieve exceptional prices for masters such as Mahmoud Saïd, Charles Hossein Zenderoudi and Shafic Abboud, among others. We are also renowned for selling important private collections, and have held a number of charity auctions supporting educational and social initiatives in the region.
Our experienced team of Middle Eastern art specialists are located in Dubai and are delighted to advise you on any questions you might have regarding selling or buying in this category or across the wider Christie’s offerings, including private sales.
