Auctioneer and Head of Department
An expert in the art market, Lionel Gosset has spent his entire career in auction houses. He started out as the main clerk to François de Ricqlès and later joined Christie’s France in 2002 where he was in charge of regional development. As an auctioneer, he managed historical auction sales and held the hammer during ‘the sale of the century’ of the Yves Saint Laurent collection at the Grand Palais in 2009 (total achieved €374,000,000). From 2012 to 2013, he orchestrated further exceptional sales such as those of the collections Victor Hugo (2012, total achieved € 3,230,000), Pierre Berès (2012, total achieved €7,230,000), Henri-Georges et Inès Clouzot (2012, total achieved €4,400,000) and Collection Hélène Rochas (2012, total achieved €15,800,000).
Having developed the ‘Intérieurs’ sales which had a very positive impact on French collectors, Lionel Gosset is in charge of the Collections department. He hosted the first charity sale in Cambodia in 2012 and organized the successes of the sales of Collection Boniface de Castellane et Anna Gould (2017, total achieved €14,266,000) , les Giacometti d’Hubert de Givenchy, Collection Alberto Pinto (2017, total achieved €11,860,000) and more recently Catherine Deneuve - Yves Saint Laurent De Mode et d’Amitié (2019, total achieved €1,162,000).
