Christie’s held its first auction of Comic Strips (Bande Dessinée) and Illustrations in Paris in 2014. Totalling nearly €4 million, the auction saw 12 artist records set, including for Hergé with Tintin au Tibet, which sold for €289,500.
Since then, we’ve consistently set top prices for iconic artists. Notable highlights include a William Vance illustration from XIII that fetched €104,500 in 2017 — quadrupling its presale estimate — and an Hergé original cover for Le Petit Vingtième, which achieved €607,500 in 2018.
