The sides carved in deep, crisp relief and pierced with a continuous scene of several scholars and their attendants in a mountain retreat, a scholar seated at a painting table holding his wine cup as it is refilled by an attendant, a fellow scholar standing to the other side with his hands raised in excitement, the reverse with a scholar holding a staff standing on a terrace while two further scholars cross a bridge and another attendant carries a wine ewer, all surrounded by trees, bamboo and rocks, the base carved as rockwork, the stone of mottled dark green color; together with a mottled green jade dish, 18th century, the rounded sides flaring slightly towards the rim and carved in shallow relief with a frieze of pendent cicada blades; and a mottled dark green serpentine bowl
