The present lot was sold in 1978 together with a drawing of similar size, technique and subject inscribed in the same way, referring to the artist's nickname 'Crabbetje', due to his disfigured left hand. A further drawing comparable in size and technique is in the Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam (I.Q. van Regteren Altena, Vereeuwigde Stad, Rome door Nederlanders getekend 1500-1900, Amsterdam, 1964, no. 4, fig. 37)
