A VENETIAN GILTWOOD AND POLYCHROME-DECORATED CENTRE TABLE

This polychromed table relates to similar candlesticks that became fashionable in the early 19th Century and revived a Venetian style of the late 17th Century. It also corresponds to a set of six stools from the collection of William Beckford which stood in the gallery of Fonthill Splendens, and are now in the collection of the National Trust for Scotland at Brodick Castle, Isle of Arran.

A related table was sold at Christie's London, 3 November 1994, lot 91
