A BOW WHITE DRAGON-HANDLED SAUCEBOAT

The present sauceboat is based on a model designed by Frederick Kandler for a silver sauceboat. A pair made for George, 14th Earl of Shrewsbury (1719-1787) was sold Sotheby's, New York, 11 April 2000, lot 211. These had marks for 1743, the year in which he succeeded to the title upon the death of his uncle. See Anton Gabszewicz, Bow Porcelain, The Collection Formed by Geoffrey Freeman, London, 1982, no. 36 for a similar Bow example from this collection; also Frank Hurlbutt, Bow Porcelain, plate 5 for a gilt example.
