A Meissen armorial teabowl and saucer
CIRCA 1735-40, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK TO BOTH, TEABOWL WITH IMPRESSED CROSS IN SEGMENTS, SAUCER WITH IMPRESSED **
The teabowl finely decorated with a coat of arms within an elaborate brown and gilt foliate escutcheon surmounted by a coronet, against a continuous estuary scene with merchants before dilapidated buildings and at various pursuits by cargo and ships above a double red line border, the interior with a Kakiemon flower-spray below a gilt Laub-und-bandelwerk border, the saucer with a similar coat of arms and escutcheon surrounded by scattered Kakiemon flower-sprays and a similar border, the underside with three Kakiemon flower-sprays, gilt line rims (some areas of minute wear to both)

專家說明

The arms are those of the Cavalli family. During the 16th and 17th Centuries members of the Cavalli family were ambassadors to Bavaria, Savoy, Spain, France and Rome, but it is still currently unclear as to which member of the family commissioned this service. A similar example in the Hoffmeister Collection in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, is illustrated by Dieter Hoffmeister, 'Meissener Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts', Katalog Der Sammlung Hoffmeister (Hamburg, 1999), Vol. II, p. 499, no. 320.
