WAGNER, Richard (1813-1883). Autograph letter signed ('Richard Wagner') to the singer Henriette Wüst, Teplitz, 25 July 1843, one page, large 4to, integral address leaf (brittle, backed onto silk, weak at folds).
A playful threat: if Wüst does not agree to sing Adriano in Rienzi, she will not have a present for her approaching wedding (to actor Hans Kriete): 'Wenn Sie meinen Adriano nicht singen wollen, bringe ich ihnen auch nichts mit; -- wenn Sie ihn aber singen wollen, so sollen Sie nicht nur die Partie davon sehr bald in das Haus bekommen, sondern außerdem ein charmantes Hochzeit-Geschenk, das ich Ihnen mitbringe', ending with a promise to repay money loaned for buying furniture, and good wishes.
