THE ELEMENTS 18TH/19TH CENTURY
Each elaborately inlaid in jade, soapstone, ivory, and hardwood in the form of antiques and precious objects on fitted wood stands, reserved on an ochre lacquer ground and set into the shaped zitan veneered frame, enclosing a border of leafy scroll and inlaid with small C-scrolls, each panel fitted at the top with gilt-metal hardware in the form of an archaistic leafy scroll

Embellished panels of this form in zitan can be found in the Qing Court Collection. See an example dated to the Qing dynasty, embellished with a scene of a bird in flight amidst flowers, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (II), Hong Kong, 2002, no. 184.
