The present work likely depicts a Jain goddess - as was customary for the time and period, this bracket figure was designed in the shape of a lotus bud. For a closely related example in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, see P. Pal, Indian Sculpture, vol. II, p. 134, cat. no. 58.
