The present lacquer box was carefully designed and delicately carved to contain a set of seven archer's rings. See a magnificent imperial cinnabar box bearing a Qianlong mark with a group of seven jade archers rings, sold in Christie's Hong Kong, 27 April 1997, lot 94.
